Free personal Insurance:
We are one of only a handful of private businesses that have been able to secure personal belongings insurance with Endsleigh Insurance. This works rather like the inclusive insurance you had in Halls of Residence except that we have upgraded the cover from the minimum £3,000 per person maximum claim in one year, to £5,000 which means your lap top is covered also.
When you have moved in the process is simple – to check your policy details you can just go to Endsleigh’s dedicated web-site www.blockhalls.co.uk , click on “review policy details”, click on “parrhouses” on the list of universities and you are off. If you have particularly valuable items or a bike you want to keep outside, you can use this policy as a platform and upgrade.
Equally if you want to make a claim, just go on to the web-site and follow the instructions – you do not need to waste time going through us first.
Utilities package:
Main points and benefits of our scheme:
1. All utility bills are put in our name and paid by us. We can arrange rates of around 10% less than the high street by buying in bulk – any savings are passed directly on to you.
2. We ask you to pay us £6 per person per week added to the rent to cover bills – if you do not spend it all you get it back at the end of the tenancy but if you over-spend then we ask for the balance.
3. You will be asked to take meter readings during the year (we take the beginning and end readings) and you will receive copies of bills as they come in so you know where you stand. This is clearly written into the contract.
4. You also benefit by not having to worry about unexpected bills or a co-tenant who fails to contribute.
5. It is a compulsory scheme – they only way it works is by giving one company all our houses in order to get the best rates.
We have also installed energy saving bulbs in every available light socket in all the houses which we expect to save at least an additional £100 per house. About 850 bulbs were fitted which was a very boring job but since they say each bulb can save up to £35 per year on electricity this might have saved you and the environment collectively £30,000.
